Az Apostoli Szentsz\u00e9k 1974. febru\u00e1r 5-\u00e9n hozta nyilv\u00e1noss\u00e1gra a Mindszenty J\u00f3zsef esztergomi \u00e9rsek felment\u00e9s\u00e9r\u0151l hozott p\u00e1pai hat\u00e1rozatot. Ezzel egy id\u0151ben kinevezte L\u00e9kai L\u00e1szl\u00f3, addigi veszpr\u00e9mi apostoli korm\u00e1nyz\u00f3t, Girus Tarasii-i c\u00edmzetes p\u00fcsp\u00f6k\u00f6t ad nutum Sanctae esztergomi apostoli korm\u00e1nyz\u00f3nak. Ez a d\u00f6nt\u00e9s pedig, sokakat, t\u00f6bbek k\u00f6z\u00f6tt a diaszp\u00f3r\u00e1ban \u00e9l\u0151 magyar katolikusokat, de a m\u00e1s vall\u00e1s\u00faakat, valamint a nem h\u00edv\u0151 magyarok jelent\u0151s r\u00e9sz\u00e9t is megd\u00f6bbentette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
El\u0151ad\u00e1somban a felment\u00e9s el\u0151zm\u00e9nyeit \u00e9s k\u00f6r\u00fclm\u00e9nyeit vizsg\u00e1lom meg, azt, hogy ez mennyire lehetett, mint ahogy azt n\u00e9h\u00e1nyan sugallj\u00e1k, a Mindszenty \u00e9s VI. P\u00e1l p\u00e1pa k\u00f6z\u00f6tti konfliktus k\u00f6vetkezm\u00e9nye \u2013 igaz\u00e1b\u00f3l egy\u00e1ltal\u00e1n l\u00e9tezett-e ilyesfajta ez a konfliktus \u2013, valamint a lev\u00e1lt\u00e1s k\u00f6vetkezm\u00e9nyek\u00e9nt kialakult helyzetet, illetve az erre adott hazai \u00e9s nemzetk\u00f6zi reakci\u00f3kat szeml\u00e9zem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
K\u00fcl\u00f6n vizsg\u00e1lom azt is, hogy ez a d\u00f6nt\u00e9s milyen hat\u00e1ssal volt a magyar diaszp\u00f3r\u00e1ra, mert a tapasztalatok szerint ez a d\u00f6nt\u00e9s hossz\u00fa ideig meghat\u00e1rozta az emigr\u00e1ns magyar csoportok hozz\u00e1\u00e1ll\u00e1s\u00e1t a hivatalos egyh\u00e1zi szervekhez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meg kell jegyeznem, hogy ez a t\u00e9ma a magyar egyh\u00e1zt\u00f6rt\u00e9netnek m\u00e9g a mai napig, k\u00e9nyes, mondhatni \u201eforr\u00f3\u201d pontja. A kutat\u00e1som k\u00f6zben sz\u00e1mos emberrel besz\u00e9ltem, akik k\u00f6z\u00fcl n\u00e9h\u00e1nyan \u00fagy \u00edt\u00e9lik meg \u2013 a mai napig \u2013 hogy a lev\u00e1lt\u00e1s hiba, s\u0151t b\u0171n volt, a magyar egyh\u00e1zzal \u00e9s Mindszentyvel szemben, m\u00e1sok pedig a magyarorsz\u00e1gi helyzet konszolid\u00e1l\u00f3d\u00e1s\u00e1t, rendez\u00e9s\u00e9t elemelt\u00e9k ki, mint a d\u00f6nt\u00e9s eredm\u00e9ny\u00e9t. Arra egy\u00e9rtelm\u0171 v\u00e1laszt nem lehet adni, hogy melyik \u00e1ll\u00e1spont helyes, de k\u00fcl\u00f6nf\u00e9le ir\u00e1nyokat felvetve megpr\u00f3b\u00e1lok el\u0151ad\u00e1somban k\u00f6zel\u00edteni az igazs\u00e1g fel\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201eEgo debuissem mori in Hungaria\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The antecedents, circumstances and effects of the deposition of Cardinal J\u00f3zsef Mindszenty in 1974<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Holy See has issued the papal bull deposing Cardinal J\u00f3zsef Mindszenty, Archbishop-Prince of Esztergom on the 5th<\/sup> February 1974. At the same time L\u00e1szl\u00f3 L\u00e9kai, till then apostolic administrator of Veszpr\u00e9m and titular bishop of Girus Tarasii was appointed apostolic administrator of Esztergom ad nutum Sanctae. This decision was a shock to many people: not only to Hungarian Catholics living in exile but also to people of other religions and to most non-religious Hungarians as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In my presentation I look at the antecedents and circumstances of the deposition and at the truthfulness of the assumption shared by some implying this being the result of the conflict of Mindszenty and <\/strong>Pope Paul VI. Also I would like to shed light on whether this conflict had existed at all. Furthermore I intend to survey the ensuing situation and the Hungarian and international reactions to the deposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I am to separately examine how this decision affected Hungarians living abroad as according to experiences the step had determined the approach of Hungarian emigrant groups towards official ecclesiastical bodies for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I must note that this subject is to date still a sensitive, hotly debated topic of the Hungarian church history. Throughout my research I talked to many people among whom some share the view up till now that the deposition was a failure, what is more, a sin against the Hungarian church and against Mindszenty. Then again others highlight the consolidation, settlement of the Hungarian situation as being the result of the decision.
